Tutoring & support

Flexible learning support for children who need a different route.

Primary tutoring, SEND/SEMH support and low-pressure help for school-related anxiety—online and across East Hertfordshire and West Essex.

Primary learning

Primary SEND & SEMH tutoring

For children of primary age and older learners working at a primary curriculum level.

Sessions can cover English, maths, phonics, reading, writing and wider curriculum subjects. Teaching is adapted to the learner's current understanding, communication preferences, sensory needs, confidence and emotional capacity.

  • Individual 1:1 sessions
  • All primary subjects
  • Support with gaps in learning
  • Confidence and engagement alongside academic skills
  • Flexible use of interests, movement, visuals and breaks
School-related anxiety

EBSA and school-avoidance support

Relationship-led educational support for learners whose anxiety or distress has made school difficult or inaccessible.

The aim is not to recreate school at home or force attendance. Sessions can provide a calmer bridge back to learning, protect the learner's sense of competence and rebuild trust at a manageable pace.

  • Low-pressure engagement
  • Flexible academic expectations
  • Support with routine, confidence and re-connection
  • Communication with parents or carers about what is working
  • Respect for the learner's current capacity

This is educational support rather than therapy, diagnosis or clinical mental-health treatment.

Session formats

Online or in the learner's home

Online sessions offer consistency, flexibility and access from a familiar environment. They can include shared whiteboards, visual resources, games and structured screen breaks.

Home-based sessions are available across East Hertfordshire and West Essex. Working in the learner's own environment can be valuable when travel or unfamiliar spaces create additional barriers.

Home visits are subject to availability, travel-area confirmation and the safeguarding arrangements set out in the safeguarding policy.

Additional option

Online GCSE maths

GCSE maths is available online only and has limited availability. It is a secondary service rather than the main focus of Little Steps Big Strides.

Common questions

Before you enquire.

Does my child need a diagnosis?

No. Support is based on the learner's current needs and barriers. A formal diagnosis is not required to begin a conversation.

Do you tutor children who are older than primary age?

Yes, where the learner is working at a primary curriculum level or would benefit from a primary-style approach. Online GCSE maths is also available on a limited basis.

Can you guarantee progress or a return to school?

No ethical tutor can guarantee a particular academic, emotional or attendance outcome. I can offer thoughtful educational support, clear communication and regular review.

Are sessions therapy?

No. Little Steps Big Strides provides tutoring and educational support. It does not replace clinical assessment, counselling, therapy, medical care or emergency support.

Can you work with my child's school?

With parent or carer consent, it may be possible to consider relevant information from school or communicate about learning priorities. Any wider professional liaison would be agreed in advance.
